- Development of new lily varieties(‘Kitakirari’,‘Pikari’,‘Kirarilemon’,‘Kirarigold’ and ‘Kirarimagic’)
- Varietal characteristics of flowers(carnation, lily, statice, Russell prairie gentian, delphinium, alstroemeria, rhizocarpous baby's breath, and larkspur)

Ornament Plant
In order to understand the essential beauty of each flower and develop its appeal under natural conditions in Hokkaido, it conducts research for characteristics of various varieties of flowering grasses(annual grass, biennial grass, and perennial plant), bulb plants, and flowering trees. It also conducts experimental research for cultivation techniques suitable for Hokkaido.

Vegetables
It promotes clean agriculture making use of the advantaged natural environment in Hokkaido, and conducts experimental research on vegetables to establish stable production of high-quality and safe vegetables. It tackles the development of pest-resistant varieties, and conducts experimental research on the theme of stabilized quality, low-cost production, and labor-saving cultivation.

Production and Environment Group
Cultivation and Environment
It aims for production of high-quality and high-performance agricultural products making use of each characteristic. It conducts research on soil and nutritional diagnosis systems for stable and environmentally-friendly production. It also conducts research on freshness preservation and storage techniques making use of natural environment in Hokkaido, as well as distribution including new transportation methods.

Pest Management Section
In order to produce good-quality vegetables and ornamental plants stably, it conducts experiments on measures to control pests generating in vegetables and ornamental plants. It promotes the development of comprehensive prevention techniques without relying totally on agrichemicals, with the aim of realizing cleanagriculture friendly to people, agricultural products and the environment.

Technological Training group
The internal and external situations surrounding flower and vegetable productions in Hokkaido agriculture has been changing significantly. In order to respond to such changes appropriately, this department has three functions as follows.
①Technical support activities
Technical support is offered to promotional activities on flowers and vegetables conducted by agricultural extension centers, in cooperation with other technical extension departments of experiment stations throughout Hokkaido.
②Systematized technology teams
Systematized technology teams, which consists of extension advisors and researchers, conducts promotion, research and development or techniques through the technical assembling and proof which agricultural experimental stations developed, depending on needs in regional agricultural sites, in close coordination with other institutes including agricultural extension centers.
③Training Projects
It aims at promoting cultivation of flowers and vegetables, which are expected as strategic crops in Hokkaido. Technical training is implemented to develop new techniques and cultivars and foster farmers and technical advisors.
